| Comments: | | Previous adverse effects from hydrocodone made Tramadol the drug of choice for pain relief after a complicated tooth extraction. I was very pleased to have adequate pain relief without the "fuzzy" feeling and slight nausea previously experienced with other prescription pain relievers. |

| Benefits: | | None. though suffering terrible pain from shingles, this drug cause a severe adverse reaction and necessitated calling an ambulance. It created sever pain in another site entirely, so effectively doubled my trouble. |
| Side effects: | | Severe upper gastro-intestinal stomach cramps consistent with biliary colic. The pain is so severe that it requires constant movement, there is a tightening sensation round the diaphragm which can easily be confused with the pain of a heart attack. |
| Comments: | | Prescribed to deal with severe neuralgic pain from shingles. Stopped treatment after adverse reaction. |

| Overall rating: | | |
| Effectiveness: | | Moderately Effective |
| Side effects: | | Severe Side Effects | | | Treatment Info |

| Benefits: | | Some reduction of pain |
| Side effects: | | Became dependant on it as suffered severe movement disorder/restless legs coming off it, leading to depression and permant movement disorder long after other problems have settled. This is now managed with other drugs, but a neurotherapist has indicated that the Tramadol caused a permanent dopamine imbalance in my brain. |
| Comments: | | Was taking Tramadol for assistance with pain caused by the herniated disk. Was also having physiotherapy and anti-inflamatories Mobic. |

| | Tramadol review by 37 year old female patient | | | Rating |
| Overall rating: | | |
| Effectiveness: | | Marginally Effective |
| Side effects: | | No Side Effects | | | Treatment Info |
| Condition / reason: | | Fibromyalgia Pain |
| Dosage & duration: | | 100 mg/day taken daily for the period of 6months |
| Other conditions: | | hypothyroid, depression |
| Other drugs taken: | | Effexor XR, Armour Thyroid | | | Reported Results |
| Benefits: | | In order to get any effects, I had to take 4-5 times the prescribed dosage. The medication is simply VERY WEAK. This drug did prove to me that managing pain on a daily basis, rather than responding to pain, significantly improved my quality of life and activity level. |
| Side effects: | | I did not experience any side effects on a normal or high dose. A VERY HIGH dose (only taken accidentally, because I forgot I had taken my usual dose earlier) on an empty stomach, will produce an unpleasant "high" feeling mentally, including spaciness and shakiness. Therefore you can't just keep taking more and more of the drug. |
| Comments: | | Bottom line, this drug just isn't very effective. It's more effective, and SIGNIFICANTLY SAFER, than the NSAIDS that docs are still prescribing for fibromylagia. But I am looking for better daily pain management. |

| Effectiveness: | | Highly Effective |
| Side effects: | | Mild Side Effects | | | Treatment Info |
| Condition / reason: | | chronic leg pain due to trauma & surgeries |
| Dosage & duration: | | 50 mg taken 4/day for the period of months |
| Other conditions: | | nerve injury & very sensitive to pain |
| Other drugs taken: | | neurontin, prevacid, advil, tylenol | | | Reported Results |
| Benefits: | | Significantly improved leg pain and allowed my child to use the leg and get stonger. Kept her from returning to narcotics. She was able to continue physical therapy and resume school. This site insists I write 50 words in this block, but I have covered all the relevant information. I just wanted people to know that once you adjust to this medicine it was a big help for my child's leg pain. I hope this is enough words. |
| Side effects: | | Major initial side effects, but those improved significantly within a week. Stongly recommend increasing amount slowly and will probably need to wean off this drug. Initial side effects were headache, stomach discomfort, sensitivity to sound, etc. Again hang in there it was worthwhile for my child. |
| Comments: | | Has had many surgeries since an accident 3 years ago. |
