| Benefits: | | I took the Keflex before my dental apppointment because of Mitral Valve Prolapse. I did not get a heart infection. |

| Comments: | | I took the Keflex one hour before my dental appointment. I got my teeth cleaned. On my way home, I started itching all over my body and developed a slight rash with reddening. I also felt like I could not breathe or get enough oxygen. So instead of going home, I went to E.R. They gave me an injection (I don't remember the name) and told me to use Benadryl at home for a couple days. If it got worse, the doctor said to return to E.R. |

| Benefits: | | It did help to control bladder infections. |
| Side effects: | | I was 25 at the time and experienced chronic yeast infections while this drug. About 10 years later I had severe bladder pain, but no infection was present. After bladder biopsy it was determined that I had intercystial cystitis and the doctor feels it was from being on this antibiotic long term. I suffered with this condition for 6 years and finally had DMSO bladder washes which relieved the problem greatly. To this day I have bladder pain occasionally. |

| Side effects: | | The only good point I suppose is that there was no adverse reaction, such as yeast infection or stomach upset. The downside was the bacterial infection quickly got worse. |

| Comments: | | within 48 hr I experience extreme abdominal pain. I developed C.Difficile and was in agony.
It wiped out all the good bacteria in my system and I also developed drug induced pneumonia.
Subsequently I was given other antibiotics to combat the pneumonia and I became so dilirious that I almost died.
ps Also, I am allergic to PCN.--anaphylactic shock. |

| Benefits: | | Mild suppression of the infection, slightly reduced upper respitory tract symptoms, some reduced coughing, some reduced mucus production. The symptoms took at least 5 out of the seven days to begin to dissipate, which is very slow compared to another antibiotic such as Maxamox. Unfortunately the side effects were more noticeable than the treatment benefits, and the prescribing doctor mistook the side effects for another symptom that was not actually present. |
| Side effects: | | Swollen glands, especially in breasts. My breasts became enlarged and very painful, causing my doctor to diagnose pregnancy. Of course this was not the case, as I tested negative for pregnancy, and my doctor was reluctant to believe that the Keflex had anything to do with it. My father noted same side effects after a similar course of Keflex. He developed painful and swollen glands in mouth and neck. Also, the management of the URTI took much longer than with other antibiotics. My symptoms seemed to linger on and on. |
| Comments: | | I had a severe URTI with bronchial coughing, headache, muscular and joint pains, and general feeling of fatigue. My doctor presecribed Keflex as an antibiotic, she regarded it as a most effective treatment for this severe URTI. I was to take one tablet (I forget the dosage) once a day for a week to ten days. As I was working I had no time to rest and had to rely on Panamax to held suppress the symptoms. Unfortunately within a day my breasts became sore and swollen, and at the end of the week I returned to my GP who tried to diagnose pregnancy when there was not the slightest possibility of this. I finished the course of Keflex, only to take on another antibiotic at the end of the course since the Keflex did such a poor job. |

| Side effects: | | The mild side effects I experienced included fatigue and the abdominal bloating and intestinal tract upset that commonly accompanies any antibiotic treatment. It would be helpful if the Patient Education information sheet included commentary about this phenomenon and instructions regarding using yogurt or supplements to prevent digestive difficulties. |
| Comments: | | The Patient Education information sheet mentioned hives and rash as potential side effects when taking this medication. As a person who is allergic to dyes and food colorings, (a red, itching, burning, eczema like rash results when I ingest these additives) I find it unnecessary that the gel cap in which this medication is contained would have to be colored green or colored at all for that matter. In order to avoid this unpleasant side effect, I opened each gel cap just prior to taking it, poured the medication out onto a spoon and swallowed it down as quickly as possible. My surgical results were excellent and I did not experience any symptoms of infection. |

| Comments: | | i was seen in the doctor's office for a swollen lymph node in my groin. at first i was told to use warm compresses; this didn't work, so they put me on an antibiotic (keflex) and within 2 days i had broken out into hives all over my torso, and the lymph node did not decrease at all in size. it was still red, swollen, and painful. i then heard about lymph drainage, done by a certified massage therapist. went for one session. by the end of the session, my lymph node was smaller, no longer red, and no longer painful; within a day after the session, the lymph node was no longer swollen. |

| Benefits: | | Really cut down the tooth infection/pain and swollen glands, during the first course of treatment I did not have any side effects at all. |

| Comments: | | I was given keflex (3x daily) for an infected root canal that needed to be redone. The swelling, pain and swollen glands subsided substantially while I was waiting 2 weeks for my appt to have the root canal redone. After the root canal, the dentist put me back on the keflex (2x daily) to insure against further infection, also since I have mitral valve prolapse. After 2 doses I developed diarrhea and took .5mg of immodium (I am sensitive to immodium, only need a very small dose). 8 hours later I developed worse diarrhea and then very severe vomiting, stomach pain, severe headache, dizziness, chills. Also my muscles were shaking and cramping as if I was very cold. I had to be taken to the urgent care, received an injection of phenergan which helped, and told never to take keflex again. Flu test was negative, I had not eaten anything during that day which could have caused food poisoning. Dx: gastroenteritis caused by keflex. |

| Comments: | | I took the Keflex after taking Augmentin for a week without results. Also, being pregnant my OB/GYN felt more comfortable with me being on Keflex than Augmentin. The treatment last longer than other antibiotics but seems to be more effective thus far. No GI effects and no signs of yeast infection like a lot if women experience with antibiotics. |

| Benefits: | | Almost immediate reduction in pain and inflammation that was not resolved by trimethoprim previously- this is a lower uti drug. Slept much better with less discomfort although tenderness remained for a few days. |
