I had to go to an eye doctor & get eye drops. My dermatologist started me back on the doxycycline & said I had to take it "forever". |

| Benefits: | | The drug relieved the sore throat and lungs, albeit within two or three days. I continued to have coughing fits only at night. |
| Side effects: | | The side effects were moderate, however the medication should not be taken prior to going to bed. I had an irritated esophagus and horrible indigestion for a full day and a half because the medication did not dissolve correctly as I had lied down. |

| Benefits: | | My chlamydia went a way and i made a complete recovery. My acne also temporarily went away, which was good. However, it did come back after i stopped taking it, which meant it was somewhat useless. |

| Side effects: | | Severe acid stomach and cramping, to the point where I could no longer take the medicine. I stopped taking Doxycycline for a year and tried topical clindamycin and other potential treatments but none worked. Therefore, I started on Doxycycline treatment again after a year as it had led to some improvement in my acne. Within 3 days, I again had severe stomach acidity and cramping and had to stop taking it. |
| Comments: | | 50mg Doxycycline taken one at night with food, meant to be 2 - 3 month treatment for acne. Unable to continue with treatment.
By the way, the most effective treatment I have now found for treating current acne is Freederm, a nicotinamide based product which is the only topical treatment I have found that improves my acne. It does not prevent new acne outbreaks.
And the best treatment I have found for acid stomach is Barley Greens, better than all over the counter acid stomach treatments and better than Zoton. |

The combination of topical benzoyl peroxide with oral doxycycline seem to synergistic reducing the severity of acne. |

I understand that peri oral dermatitis is not uncommon in women of my age and is thought to be hormone and stress related, much like acne in adolecents. |

| Comments: | | the treatment benefits were good because i had mrsa and was hospitalized,then on pills and intravenous drips at the hospital outpatient for 6 days following release from hospital stay,then 2 more weeks on an oral antibiotic after finishing the infusions..that was a wide assortment of meds..mrsa was gone.about a month and a half later,i got mrsa again.but not as severe,but did catch it as it started to feel like a pimple,not a boil..(dont know how i keep getting it.noone in family has/had it.),and was put on doxycycline(reference above) for 10 days,2 x a day,at 100 mg.and followed the directions.i also used on occassion,an antibiotic shower wash,and 100 % pimple cream for the outside..i had 2 boils that quickly faded,and skin healed better,and seemed like it was wiped out.they were about the size of a small dime when started meds this time.by day 3,i felt a lot better,no longer severely itchy where the boils were(common symptom with mrsa),by day 10,they were the size of a grain of sand/rice..it seemed to be gone.now it is 2 weeks later.2 new boils on the same spot an old was "supposedly healed" and 1 new spot...so now on doxycycline again for 30 days and following up with physicians...this all started with what was thought a boil.1 boil on my junk,that had to be lanced.i recommend anyone going into a hopspital for a procedure,to be cut,opened,be put on a good antibiotic 1 week before having it done,and then be put on it afterwards for 2 weeks as well..thats my opinion,but maybe it'd help curb the spread.though they deemed mine being community aquired,i tend to doubt it. |

| Comments: | | I'm unlucky to have three conditions that affect the attractiveness of my face. I've struggled with acne since youth, and I've also had chronic blepharitis since age 12. I am not heading into my 30's, and I'm beginning to develop rosacea on my upper cheeks, which could be contributing to my blepharitis. Some days, I just don't feel like leaving the house because of how I look. Doxycycline has helped clear up the acne and the rosacea symtoms. However, it wasn't as affective at treating my blepharitis, so I'm not going to try a topical antibiotic, which has worked in the past. |

| Side effects: | | Day 2 I had vomiting & feeling sick for up to 4hours.The vomiting itself only lasted 15mins, mainly due to having little food in my stomach. The worst thing was being unable to keep water down.
I have also experienced an upset stomach & achey bones.

I found that I had to eat 2 rounds of dry toast 30mins before taking the tablet & ensuring I was upright for a min of 45mins after taking the tablet to ensure I wasnt sick.

| Benefits: | | perioral dermatitis disappear completely during the treatment, but occured again after 2 months. During that time I used only natural toothpaste with no flouride in it. I haven't used any cosmetics during the treatment, but I started using facial cream after a week when dermatitis disappered avoiding the area around the mouth. Continue taking 100mg a day for 40 days and I'll see. |
