| Benefits: | | The Ibuprofen gel would enable instant relief as it could be applied topically and carried around easily in ones pocket/bag.
The Diclomax SR tablets tended to work quite quickly therefore providing quick relief. I also used an ice pack which combined with the other treatments mentioned gave me round the clock relief. |
| Side effects: | | I experienced stomach pains and bleeding when tablets were taken on an empty stomach. This was the only side effect I experienced and as long as you can be organised about when you eat and take the tablets then it causes no problems at all. Given the fact I relied on these tablets for 3 years, the side effects were extremely mild and forgettable. |
| Comments: | | The treatment was for my back pain, this was lower back pain caused by a slipped disk. I also received cortisone injections which gave little or no relief. I was prescribed 3 tablets a day of 75mg dosage to take with meals.
I also had to undertake some back strength exercises in order to strengthen the muscles which had wasted away.

| Benefits: | | The pain was greatly diminished and I was able to live my life in relative comfort. |
| Side effects: | | It caused my liver function tests to become elevated. This was discovered by accident on a routine physical. |
| Comments: | | I was taken off the diclofenac to see if that was the cause of the elevated liver enzymes; the tests were repeated about 6 weeks later. They came back normal once the drug was out of my system. I went back to suffering a great deal of pain and was sent to physical therapy, which didn't help. I ended up having a nerve block done for the spinal problem, which has fixed the pain. The other disseminated pain I have, was later treated very successfully with tramadol, 100 mg., two 3X daily, plus gabapentin, 600 mg, one 3X daily. |

| Benefits: | | Patient complained of muscular pain in arm, thought to be broken. Visit to physician proved otherwise. Arm imobilised and patent put on diclofenac. Thus far,no further complaint of pain, over past month increased mobility, and muscular strength. |
