Benefits:   I used to have near-daily migraines. I tried every migraine medication on the market. Either they didn't have any effect, or I was unable to tolerate them due to side-effects. With Botox injections administered by a very knowledgable neurologist who is also a pain specialist, I am virtually migraine-free for months.
Side effects:   Sometimes I had some minor swelling at an injection site. It went away within days.
Comments:   My neurologist injects the tiny cranial muscles as well as muscles along my neck and upper shoulder. He uses a tiny needle and injects very little at each site. He determines where the trigger points are before administering the Botox. PLEASE NOTE: If using Botox for migraines, do go to a neurologist who is experienced with migraine pain. DO NOT have this done by a cosmetic surgeon!

Dosage & duration:   unsure, it was two syringes full (dosage frequency: once every three months) for the period of two years
Other conditions:   lines around mouth
Other drugs taken:   none

Reported Results
Benefits:   The furrows (lines above my eyes) on forehead disappered. They started reappearng after about three months. I looked younger. I also didnt look look like i was frowning all of the time.
Side effects:   The initital injection was very painful. I had a very bad headache for about two days after the treatment. Also after about a year of the treatments i started noticing lines on the sides of my forehead, which my doctor said was unrelated to the botox, but i know someone else who got them as well.
Comments:   The treatment consisted of injected 2 syringes, one on each side of the furrows lines on my forehead. The doctor said I could also have them injected on the sides of the eyes but i opted not to. Probably because of the pain.

Benefits:   Wrinkles did disapear, but there was bruising and swelling. It did reduce after a few days, and I noticed the inability to move the muscles in my forehead and around my mouth.
Side effects:   Bruising and swelling. Not sure if it was the way the injections were delivered or because of my tendency to bruise.
Comments:   The vials were injected around my mouth, eyes, and on the forhead. The effect did last for several months, but I had not been happy about the side effects.

Condition / reason:   for wrinkle (line) reduction
Dosage & duration:   100 units (dosage frequency: one time injection of 100units,) for the period of 1 time 100u, 2 x 50 units, 10 u x 1
Other conditions:   none
Other drugs taken:   multivitamins

Reported Results
Benefits:   Botox was administered to help reduce the lines appearing on my forehead and at the outer side of my eyes- crows feet. The 100 and 50 unit injections were effective in reducing the lines for a period of about 5 months, but there were noticeable adverse reactions with the 100 units. The 50 units were as effective but without the spasms noted under Treatment Details. OF the 2 times 50 units were injected, the last time the botox had been reconstituted for more than the recommended 4 hours. There was concern of effectiveness, but actually it seems as though the botox was more quickly effective, and seemed more effective in reducing the lines that the previous 50 unit injection. More detail is covered under the treatment details.
Side effects:   Side effects were twitching of eyes, especially upon smiling,,, spasms of cheeks. Blurry vision. This lasted for approximately 3 days.
Comments:   The first use of botox was 100 units. Injections were 5 injections on the upper-mid forehead. 3 injections were given around the outer side of each eye. Within 2 hours it was difficult to close my eyes. The forehead was totally stiff. Upon smiling and talking my cheek muscles were noticably twitching. Eye lids twitched, friends noticed my face spasming. I make note of this issue because of the fact concerning the stability of the botox. I realize that botox is available in 50 or 100 unit vials, which are then reconstituted. The nurse stated that he had to use all of the botox (apparently he only had the 100unit vial)because it would be instable after 4 hours. Since this time, I have had 50units of botox at two different times, injected in the same areas stated above. There was no adverse spasms, be definite "freezing" of the forehead muscles. The 100 units and 50 units lasted about 4-5 months before lines started to appear again due to frowning, smiling, etc. I recently had only 10 units injected mid-upper forehead in 2-3 injections. Upon raising my eyebrows I needed (I thought) injections more lower mid section since the upper forehead did not move. After one month, I find that I have a few lines above my eyebrow but in general, my forehead is less lined. My MAIN CONCERN is : if physicians, agents have only 50 - 100unit vials available, and they are only injecting 1 client, what do they do with the residual. Is this why there is such a high cost $11 - $15 per unit?? It makes me wonder if physicians are freezing or using the botox beyond the 4 hour expiration time. Have manufacturers ever thought of packaging smaller unit packages to assure clients are getting "the real" stuff. This last physician did not have the manufacturer's bottle for me to see, only a small syringe already pre-filled.

Benefits:   the treatment (eyes & forehead) was highly effective and lasted 6 months each of the 3 times I was treated. I have a very deep vertical line between my eyes which was all but invisible with each treatment. I loved it!
Side effects:   none
Comments:   Botox was administered to my forehead and outer eye area (crows feet) via small gauge needle. Totally painless. It took about 3 days for the drug to take effect but once it did, it kept the wrinkles at bay for approximately 6 months.
