It is known that long-term use of bezodiazepines, presumably including clonazepam, can sometimes lead to cognitive side effects including memory impairment. However, this issue remains insufficiently researched. It is still unclear how common these problems are how reversible they are upon discontinuation of treatment. It appears that in many cases, these cognitive side effects are at least partly reversible. How reversible they are probably depends on many factors, such as duration of treatment, dosage, age, concurrent medication, heredity and so forth -- more research is clearly needed.
