Savella is an antidepressant of SSRI & SNRI class. In some people, discontinuation of the drugs from this class can cause withdrawal symptoms. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SSRI_discontinuation_syndrome for details). In most cases, gradual  tapering off the dose  would significantly reduce the severity of withdrawal symptoms.

Depending on may factors, the appropriate tapering off period for most  (but not all) SSRI/SNRI meds would  be between  2 and  4 weeks or so (not sure  about Savella specifically though).

In any case, you should talk to your doctor before changing the dose and, if any change or discontinuation is warranted, discuss the  optimal rate of tapering off -- it depends on many factors and should be  determined by a physician who knows your history well.
