Is Rilutek safe for recently diagnosed Spinal Muscular Atrophy
I am 65. Six years ago after a fall I lost fast motor skills-have been to Mayo-no conclusive diagnosis-recently saw a neurologist who diagnosised SMA-only slight muscle weakness these past 6 years-Would Rilutek be advisable for my treatment? I have good health-take no meds and have no pain-Would taking the medicine help get fast motor skills back-slow down any future muscle weakness or would risk of any side effects outweigh possible help-also what vitamens should not be taken with this drug

It appears that Rilutek (riluzole) is being investigated as a possible treatment for SMA but I don't see any completed human clinical trials that could answer your question more or less definitively.
