Provigil is a stimulant but since it is a relativelt CNS-selective alpha-1 adrenergic agonist, it has significantly lower potential for cardiovascular side effects compared to such stimulants as amphetamines or ephedrine.
However, it does appear to have the capacity to somewhat elevate blood pressure in some people (usually mildly).
The rx label of provigil says:
"While there was no consistent change in mean values of heart rate or systolic and diastolic blood pressure, the requirement for antihypertensive medication was slightly greater in patients on PROVIGIL compared to placebo"
Therefore, people with hypertension and other cardiovascular problems should be under the supervision of a physician if adding provogil (and should monitor their blood pressure carefully), so that the dosages can be adjusted accordingly.
