A lot of people with allergies use Zyrtec for months or even years – usually without any significant ill effects. However, some report diminishing effectiveness over time. For mild-to-moderate allergies, an alternative might be to use Zyrtec intermittently (on bad days only, for example), which makes development of tolerance less likely.
