It depends on what they are used for and how. Carbocaine (mepivacaine) and lidocaine are of the same drug class but their metabolism and half-life (and therefore effects) may differ, at least in some situations.
For example, for regional intravenous anesthesia, mepivacaine appears to provide more effective and durable anesthesia according to this article
