Testosterone Modestly Boosted Sex Drive In Post-Menopausal Women

An Australian led study found that using testosterone patches helped to increase sex drive in post-menopausal women with low sex drive who were not on hormone replacement therapies. The research was led by principal investigator Susan Davis who is Professor of Women's Health in the Department of Medicine at Monash University, Victoria, and published in the 6th November issue of the New England Journal of Medicine.

An international study showed testosterone, when used with no other hormone therapy, is an effective treatment for low libido in postmenopausal women. More than 800 women from 65 centers in the United States, Canada, Australia, the United Kingdom and Sweden participated in the study, the first to show that testosterone administered by a skin patch can boost sex drive in postmenopausal women.

A new study states that obese men with erectile dysfunction (ED) are shown to have low levels of hormones, such as testosterone. The findings also show that certain conditions associated with obesity, particularly hypertension, are the most important determinants of obesity-related ED. The study was published in The Journal of Sexual Medicine, the official journal of the International Society for Sexual Medicine.
