NEWS HIGHLIGHTS

Published Studies Related to Norvasc (Amlodipine)

Additive beneficial effects of atorvastatin combined with amlodipine in patients with mild-to-moderate hypertension. [2009.08.01]
BACKGROUND: We hypothesized that atorvastatin combined with amlodipine has additive beneficial vascular and metabolic effects that are superior to monotherapy in patients with hypertension... CONCLUSIONS: Atorvastatin combined with amlodipine therapy improves endothelial function and increases adiponectin levels and insulin sensitivity to a greater extent than monotherapy with either drug in hypertensive patients.

Comparison of olmesartan medoxomil versus amlodipine besylate on regression of ventricular and vascular hypertrophy. [2009.08.01]
Reversal of left ventricular (LV) hypertrophy is an important goal of antihypertensive therapy. This phase 3b study compared the ability of the angiotensin receptor blocker olmesartan medoxomil with the calcium channel blocker amlodipine besylate to induce regression of LV hypertrophy and vascular hypertrophy after achieving blood pressure (BP) goal...

Triple antihypertensive therapy with amlodipine, valsartan, and hydrochlorothiazide: a randomized clinical trial. [2009.07]
Many patients with hypertension require > or =3 agents to achieve target blood pressure (BP). The efficacy/safety of the dual combinations of valsartan (Val)/hydrochlorothiazide (HCTZ) and amlodipine (Aml)/Val in hypertension are well established... In conclusion, this study demonstrates the efficacy/safety of treating moderate and severe hypertension with Aml/Val/HCTZ 10/320/25 mg.

Efficacy of combined amlodipine/terazosin therapy in male hypertensive patients with lower urinary tract symptoms: a randomized, double-blind clinical trial. [2009.07]
OBJECTIVES: To investigate the therapeutic efficacy and safety of Amlodipine alone or in combination with terazosin for the presence of lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS) and hypertension. LUTS and hypertension often coexist in elderly men... CONCLUSIONS: The results of this 4-week, double-blind, randomized trial have demonstrated that in Chinese male hypertensive patients with LUTS, low-dose Amlodipine plus terazosin therapy appears to be a safe and effective combination therapy to control both conditions, especially for those with predominant overactive bladder symptoms.

Efficacy and safety of initial combination therapy with amlodipine/valsartan compared with amlodipine monotherapy in black patients with stage 2 hypertension: the EX-STAND study. [2009.07]
The strategy of initiating hypertension treatment with combination versus single-drug therapy was formally tested in a prospective, double-blind, parallel-group trial in blacks with stage 2 hypertension (mean sitting systolic BP (MSSBP) >or=160 and <200 mm Hg)... In conclusion, the strategy of initiating combination antihypertensive drug therapy in blacks with stage 2 hypertension with amlodipine /valsartan achieves greater and quicker reductions in BP as well as significantly higher BP control rates than starting treatment with amlodipine monotherapy.

Clinical Trials Related to Norvasc (Amlodipine)

Comparing Amlodipine/Atorvastatin Co-Administration To Amlodipine Alone In Patients With Hypertension And Dyslipidemia [Completed]

Efficacy/Safety of Valsartan Plus Amlodipine and Amlodipine Alone in Patients With Hypertension [Completed]
This study will evaluate the safety and efficacy of the fixed combination of valsartan/amlodipine in adult patients with mild to moderate hypertension

A Study Comparing the Response of Patients With Hypertension to Amlodipine or Amlodipine Plus Benazepril. [Completed]
Comparison of the safety and efficacy of the combination of amlodipine/Benazepril to amlodipine monotherapy in patients with non-essential hypertension, not controlled on amlodipine alone.

Long Term Study For Amlodipine 10mg With Hypertension For Whom Amlodipine 5mg Is Insufficient [Active, not recruiting]
To investigate the safety and efficacy of the long-term use of amlodipine 10 mg in subjects who will be able to enter a long-term study after completing the parent study "A double-blind comparative study between amlodipine 5 mg and 10 mg in patients with essential hypertension for whom amlodipine 5 mg is insufficiently effective" (Protocol No.: A0531085).

Safety and Efficacy of Valsartan/Amlodipine Compared to Amlodipine in Patients With Essential Hypertension [Active, not recruiting]
This study is designed to compare the efficacy, tolerability, and safety of the combination valsartan/amlodipine 160/5mg versus amlodipine 10mg in patients with essential hypertension not adequately controlled [defined as mean sitting systolic blood pressure (MSSBP) ≥ 130 mmHg and ≤ 160 mmHg] on amlodipine 5mg alone.

The study will evaluate the efficacy and tolerability of both treatment groups by providing data evaluating blood pressure lowering efficacy and the proportion of patients developing peripheral edema.
