MACROTEC®
Kit for the Preparation of Technetium Tc 99m
Albumin Aggregated

Macrotec is a sterile, nonpyrogenic, Iyophilized preparation of albumin aggregated. Each 5 mL vial of Macrotec contains 1.5 mg of Albumin Aggregated, 10.0 mg Albumin Human.

Macrotec (Kit for the Preparation of Technetium Tc 99m Albumin Aggregated) is indicated for the following:

Lung Imaging

Macrotec (Kit for the Preparation of Technetium Tc 99m Albumin Aggregated) is a lung imaging agent which may be used as an adjunct in the evaluation of pulmonary perfusion in adults and children. It is useful in the early detection of pulmonary emboli and in the evaluation of the status of the pulmonary circulation in such conditions as pulmonary neoplasm, pulmonary tuberculosis and emphysema.

Shunt Imaging

Technetium Tc 99m Albumin Aggregated may be used in adults as an imaging agent to aid in the evaluation of peritoneo-venous (LeVeen) shunt patency.

Isotopic Venography

Macrotec is also indicated for use in isotopic venography as an adjunct in the screening, diagnosis and management of deep vein thrombosis in the lower extremities.

Combined isotopic venography of the lower extremities and the pulmonary vasculature may be performed.

99m Tc-albumin nanocolloid joint scintigraphy in rheumatoid arthritis patients who are in clinical remission - is remission real ? [2010.05]
OBJECTIVES: To make a comparison between the clinical data and the imaging results with 99mTc-nanocolloid scintigraphy in rheumatoid arthritis (RA) patients considered to be in remission... CONCLUSIONS: The clinical criteria used for remission in RA are not consistent with the actual inflammatory activity in the joints. These results are especially emphasised in the subgroup of sero-positive patients.

Clinical assessment of hepatic functional reserve using 99mTc DTPA galactosyl human serum albumin SPECT to prognosticate chronic hepatic diseases--validation of the use of SPECT and a new indicator. [2003.05]
RATIONALE: It is generally known that scintigraphy of 99mTc diethylenetriamine pentaacetic acid-galactosyl human serum albumin (99mTc-GSA) is useful for assessing hepatic functional reserve. For hepatic functional indicators, the index of the calculated planar image has been used in previous studies. However, there have been few reports that suggest that the indicators calculated from static SPECT data would be useful for the assessment of hepatic function. The aims of this study were to establish a simple method for assessing hepatic functional reserve using the liver SPECT of 99mTc-GSA and to apply this method for rich stratification in patients with chronic hepatic diseases... CONCLUSION: The SPECT method was superior to the planar method for assessing LURs. LUR was a suitable indicator of 99mTc-GSA clearance from the blood pool and of binding to the asialo-glycoprotein receptor. LUR is a simple and clinically useful indicator for the assessment of hepatic functional reserve in chronic hepatic diseases.

[Calcium channel blocking agents and albuminuria in diabetic and hypertensive patients. A pilot study] [2000.08]
Diltiazem tends to decrease proteinuria in hypertensive diabetic subjects in comparison to amlodipine that does not modify it. Since estimated glomerular pressure is identical in amlodipine treated and diltiazem treated subjects, differences in albuminuria may be explained by different renal tubular reabsorption rates. OBJECTIVES: To compare plasma clearances (PC) of technetium labeled albumin (albumin-Tc99m) obtained by serial plasma measurements with PC obtained by urinary excretion measurements. Indirectly evaluate tubular reabsorption of albumin-Tc99m. Test the hypothesis that amlodipine decreases renal tubular reabsorption of albumin in diabetic hypertensive subjects... CONCLUSION: A decrease in PC obtained with plasma measurements and stability of PC based on urinary excretion measurements tends to identify a decrease in plasma volume. A decrease in albumin-Tc99m tubular reabsorption was not observed. The estimate of albumin PC with Tc 99m labelled albumin measurements still needs to be validated.

OBJECTIVE: Pulmonary clearance of technetium-labeled human serum albumin was measured in order to investigate whether the surfactant layer is a rate-limiting factor for the permeability of the alveolar-capillary membrane for 99mTc-labeled albumin... CONCLUSIONS: The use of 99mTc-human serum albumin as a tracer molecule is possible and feasible. The clearance of this tracer is, in part, determined by the integrity of the pulmonary surfactant system, as it is with 99mTc-diethylenetriamine pentaacetate.
