Clinical trial showing superiority of a coconut and anise spray over permethrin 0.43% lotion for head louse infestation, ISRCTN96469780. [2010.01] Permethrin is the most widely used pediculicide, but evidence of resistance from several countries and anecdotal reports from Germany suggest that permethrin lotion is now less effective. We designed a randomized, controlled, parallel group trial involving 100 participants with active head louse infestation to investigate the activity of a coconut and anise spray and to see whether permethrin lotion is still effective, using two applications of product 9 days apart...

Efficacy and safety of spinosad and permethrin creme rinses for pediculosis capitis (head lice). [2009.09] CONCLUSIONS: Spinosad, which did not require nit combing, was significantly more effective than permethrin in 2 studies reflecting actual-use conditions, and most spinosad-treated participants required only 1 application. Spinosad is a more convenient and effective treatment for pediculosis capitis.

Efficacy of a topical ectoparasiticide containing dinotefuran, pyriproxyfen, and permethrin against Amblyomma americanum (Lone Star tick) and Amblyomma maculatum (Gulf Coast tick) on dogs. [2009.03] Amblyomma americanum (lone star tick) and Amblyomma maculatum (Gulf Coast tick) are important disease vectors for both dogs and humans. This article describes two studies conducted to evaluate the efficacy of a new topical spot-on ectoparasiticide containing dinotefuran, permethrin, and pyriproxyfen (Vectra 3D, Summit VetPharm) against A.

Effectiveness of Permethrin Impregnated Underwear in Preventing Louse Proliferation in Infected Homeless [Recruiting]
Homelessness, also name the fourth world, is a growing public health problem worldwide.
Previous studies showed that up to 30% of the homeless people reported pruritus that often
results in itchy lesions, which expose them to bacterial skin infections.
The investigators therefore conducted a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled trial
to test the hypothesis that a single oral dose of ivermectin was effective in significantly
reducing the prevalence of pruritus in a sheltered homeless population.
Comparison of the Efficacy and Safety of Ivermectin to Permethrin [Completed]
Tick-borne Illness and Clothing Study [Recruiting]
The high risk of acquiring tick-borne diseases by outdoor workers is well documented.
Workers most at risk include, foresters, park rangers, land surveyors and other outdoor
workers have frequent exposure to tick-infested habitats. Many North Carolina state
employees with outdoor occupations report multiple tick bites each year, which indicates
that existing tick preventive strategies may be ineffective. The principal goal of this
study is to assess whether the use of long-lasting permethrin impregnated uniforms can
reduce the number of tick bites sustained by North Carolina outdoor workers.
