The effectiveness of drug therapy for the prevention or treatment of
glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis has been reported. Especially, the beneficial
effects of bisphosphonates (etidoronate, alendronate, and risedronate) to prevent
bone loss and fractures have been confirmed by the large-scale, multicenter,
double-blind, randomized controlled trials in terms of both primary and secondary
prevention. This article reviews the results of recent randomized prospective
trials using bisphosphonates in glucocorticoid-induced osteoporosis.
